Saturday 1st April 2017 – Fir Water

On Saturday a charity match in aid of Christies Hospital took place with around 30 anglers turning out in support and a big effort by all concerned to raise funds. Despite the poor conditions on the morning, the lake fished well and the Carp are now starting to show again as we start to move away from winter. Over the past week the water has started to gradually change colour and look more like a ‘chocolate milk’ which is a real indication that the Carp are starting to move and root around again. Winner on the day was Carl Morris on peg 5 with a net of 55lb dead. Carl’s net was a good mix made up of Carp, F1 Carp, Barbel and a few Ide and other silvers. Carl swapped between 2 lines fishing tight to the island at 14.5m and then literally under his feet on corn and pellet taking a few fish from each and then swapping over. Back up weight on the day was Derrick Wane with 50-2-0 from peg 2. Derrick fished similar tactics to Carl and also had plenty of Carp in his net as well as Barbell. Third place went to Lee Berrisford who drew peg 15 towards the top of the lake and finished with a net of 42-15-0 made up of Carp, Ide and Skimmers. Well done to all the lads who turned out in support of Christies and a special thanks to Paul who has worked hard organising this event. There is a further match in aid of Christies on Saturday 15th April and we look forward to seeing another big turn out. Well done to everyone on the day and here are the top 5 results:

1, Carl Morris – Peg 5 – 55-0-0
2, Derrick Wane – Peg 2 – 50-2-0
3, Lee Berrisford – peg 15 – 42-15-0
4, Matt Darwell – peg 7 = 40-7-0
5, David Hargreaves – peg 3 – 40-3-0
