Sunday 12th March 2017 – Fir Water

This week saw the turn of Atherton Tackle & Bait fishing club with over 30 anglers turning out on a beautiful March morning. Gerald Trainer was this week’s victor with a match weight of over 36lb from peg 26. Gerald’s net was made up of mainly Ide and Skimmers fishing caster at 14m towards the island. Runner up on the day was David Hupton who drew peg 18 and for over 4 hours fished tight across to the far shelf on corn, switching tactics late in the day with maggot down the near shelf targeting the Barbel for a total weight of just under 34lb. This was just enough to see off Tommy Aspinall’s 30-13-0 net from peg 40 who lived up to his nickname of “Tommy Top Two” by fishing banded pellet under his feet for a solid net of Ide and Barbel. This was a close match with most of the back-up weights in the early 20s and the general consensus on the day being those who could get the Ide and Barbel feeding confidently in front of them would stand the best chance of a 30lb+ net. Thanks to all the Atherton Tackle & Bait lads and we look forward to see you all again next Sunday. Here are the top 5 weights from today’s match:

1, Gerlad Trainer – Peg 26 – 36-2-0
2, David Hupton – Peg 18 – 33-15-0
3, Tommy Aspinwall – Peg 40 – 30-13-0
4, Steve Frodsham – Peg 19 – 25-5-0
5, Neil Glindon – Peg 23 – 22-3-0
