Community is at the heart of everything we do! We actively encourage volunteers and work with a number of local small businesses through sponsorship of events at Fir Tree Fishery…
Fishing Peg Sponsorship
Fir Tree Fishery has a number of sponsorship opportunities for local busineeses who would like to support our projects and the work we do. We actively get amongst the community seeking sponsorship and fundraising so we can deliver more programmes that support more young people and our beneficiries with disabilities.
We like to recognise support from local business and our most popular fundrasising activity to date has been the ‘sponsored fishing peg plaques’. These aliminium plaques are erected on the disabled access fishing pegs to recognise a local companies support showing details such as logo, contact number and address with a strap line reading ‘Sponsored by’.. We ask for a contribution of just £100 each year, with just one sponsorship per fishing peg.
Community Garden Sponsorship
Beyond August, there will also be the opportunity for local businesses to sponsor the community garden areas inbetween the fishing pegs the learners will develop with the support of volunteers. We actively seek sponsorship to raise funds towards tools and materials that will support the learners to develop these wildlife habitats made availavle to the public. Similar to the fishing peg plaques, we ask for a contribution of just £100 per year for a plaque to be erected in the garden showing it has been created with the support of a local business.
In the summer months we deliver a number of workshops and angling academy events for children in looked after and protected care and we rely heavily on grant support and contributions made from the community and local businesses. Contributions large or small allow us to fund additional staff and volunteers so more young people from vulnerable backgrounds can enjoy these events.
Volunteering at Fir Tree Fishery
We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds to help us support the local community through our angling and outdoor enrichment events. You might be an angling coach wanting to help out at a fishing event such as our Adult Community Learning programme ‘Introduction to Angling’, or a horticulturist who has a passion for helping young people realise nature.
We are very proud that the work we do has made such an impact on so many peoples lives. We have been recognised in a number of case studies such as the Forever Manchester Annual Impact Report 2013 and we have recently completed a Sport England Inspired Facilities funded project to create a sustainable boardwalk using recycled plastic materials with angling coaching pegs around Fir Water.
